What's up with the pathetic remakes of shit

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

Someone on the radio today pointed out that it was the 35 year anniversary of Queen's "A Kind of Magic" album being released. I forgot that it was the "unofficial" soundtrack for Highlander.

95 year old Mel Brooks is working on a streaming TV series sequel to History of the World Part 1. The Part 1 in the title and the fake trailer for the sequel at the end of the film were supposed to be jokes. But on a long enough timeline….

Also, Scream 5 comes out in January. But Paramount was afraid the ‘5’ would scare off potential filmgoers, so the film is just ‘Scream’ like the original. But it’s NOT a reboot. It’s Scream 5. Scream is an interesting horror franchise, in that, the survivors keep returning for the sequels, instead of the killer. Unlike Jason, Freddy, and Michael Myers, we keep getting Dewey, Gayle, and Sydney Prescott. At this point, doesn’t Sydney have a bigger kill count than any of the actual Ghostfaces?

They have been talking about the new Top Gun movie for so long, I was sure it already came out and that the commercial I saw was for the streaming/DVD release.

Spinal Tap 2 is coming out in 2024.

I feel like an outcast from humanity because I haven't seen the new Top Gun and don't plan to. The idea of a Top Gun sequel is just extremely "meh" for me. Judging from the numbers, it looks like there are only three people on Earth who didn't see it, and the other two live so far out in the Outback that they've never heard of electricity. I'm not opposed to it, but can think of so many other things I'd rather spend two hours on.

Pretty sure I could accurately sum up the plot without even really paying attention to the trailers.

I read or heard it on the radio or whatever…Beverly Hills Cop 4 is happening. I’m pretty sure they tried a TV series a few years ago, but it never made it past the pilot phase. It was going to be about Axel’s son and Murphy was just going to cameo.

But anyway, I can just picture Eddie Murphy seeing the success of Ghostbusters:Afterlife and Top Gun:Maverick and Stallone doing the Creed movies, etc and just screaming into his phone at his agent and managers and whoever “I want that!! Are you seeing all this 80s shit?? I want that! Make it happen!”

Make that 4. I have no intention of seeing it. Somewhere in the mid-1990s, I got sick of Tom Cruise and haven't had any desire to see his movies ever since.

I've never seen the original Top Gun and have never made it a priority.
All I know about the new one is there direct reference/homage/rip off/whatever to A New Hope with a briefing scene about a trench run and at the end there is a target 3 meters wide.

Not exactly a remake, but I understand the plot is essentially the same, but I am more than fucking tired of Avatar 2 and it's not even out.

Not even the marketing blitz. It's the way it's created a bizarre rivalry that I can only compare to Elon Musk fanboys and normal people. Half the people are swearing it's going to bomb (good or bad, it's not), and the other half preemptively saying it's the best movie ever (I doubt it will be). It's fucking crazy. Who cares this much about a movie no one could say anything about up until recently when people started bandwagonning the sequel?

Still haven't seen the first. I've sort of tried, but stopped before actually starting because I could binge all of MASH in the same time instead.

On a related note, I haven't watched Wednesday, and I do want to, but if I see that fucking frame of her dancing one more time, I'm going to scream. Not really, because that's guaranteed to happen in any 3-minute period online.

I haven't seen the original Avatar, either. Someone once told me it was basically Pocahontas. I'm going to take their word for it.

I'm loving the comments from film snob acquaintances on social media, saying Avatar 2 is pretty to look at but has a weak story but it's fun to watch in the theater so it's a great film... when these same people blast every single Marvel movie as terrible because they're blowing Scorsese.

Not weighing in on either side. I’ll enjoy a Scorsese movie, but it’s usually two guys talking in a coffee shop, and then later somebody shoots someone in the back of the head in a motel room. I don’t need to pay $12 to see that on the bigscreen when I can watch it at home on a streaming service I already pay for. Whereas Marvel and Avatar movies are fun to experience on the bog screen and I’m not going there expecting life affirming Shakespearian writing. Scorsese(and Tarantino and Scott, and all the other gatekeeping auteurs) made movies when the only place you could see new product was in the cinema. They are clinging to a past that no longer exists and are laying blame at the wrong doorstep, just because it’s “beneath them” to adapt to the times of the current film watching demographic.

Also, I equally detest hyperbole in critiquing things. Not everything has to be the greatest thing ever or it sucks all the donkey cocks in the history of everything. There’s leeway.

I didn't realize that read like I was bashing Scorsese. Just referencing his recent comments.

Hollywood is truly kicking over every rock. Night Court is getting rebooted/sequeled? It also shows you how little network TV I watch anymore.

I never watch network TV, and haven't seen any of the MacGuyver or Hawaii-50 shows.

John Larroquette is going to be back to play Dan Fielding. The description I saw said that one of the new characters is going to be Judge Stone's daughter. The actress is 42. The original series ended in 1992, and I don't remember him having a kid on the show. Then again, I might have missed the 2 final seasons.

I forgot that Charlie Robinson and Markie Post both passed away in 2021.

I think I watched Hawaii50 on and off for the first season or two, but I was surprised several years later that it was still going. The original series was before my time. The MacGuyver reboot looked meh, and I refused to bother with MagnumPI.

I could’ve sworn Bull and Roz had both passed away also, but apparently not.
