What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

Yes. TCM had a host come on in between films and give a bit of history about the film company. Universal owned the rights to a lot of horror films, so in the 50's, they negotiated a deal to remake a bunch of Universal's horror films from the 20's and 30's.

just finished "Hot Rod" on netflix streaming. i have honestly not laughed that uncontrollably in a long time. it's perplexing to me just what is so hilarious about making the present day look like the 80's - but it is.

I dunno, but it worked as early as The Wedding Singer. As fucking obvious as it was, the line about Sandler's ex jinxing Van Halen was one of the funniest lines I've seen in a movie trailer.

Coincidentally, it was also the only part of the flick I enjoyed.

the 80's setting is funny background, but the physical comedy and the more off-the-wall occurrences are the highlights of "Hot Rod".

The smack talk between the kid and the step-father was hilarious.

Saw Looper today. Pretty good time travel film complete with paradoxes. Piper Perabo showed her titties.

Branded. Fucking abysmal. Even though I'm full of flu and being negative nancy it really was a dreadful film. I got the feeling it had been hacked to pieces to make sense for idiot audiences and was nothing like originally intended but the result was dull and awkward and clumsy. Charmless. Lifeless. I was so disappointed as the trailer made it look like it'd be a really cool movie. Hopefully at some point there'll be a directors cut and that'll change my mind but as it is i wouldn't reccomend anyone waste their time with it unless they're taking strong prescription sedatives.
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

Cross of Iron. Sam Peckinpah turned down directing the Superman movie so he could make this WWII film instead. James Coburn plays a war weary German Platoon Sgt. who is at odds with his new Platoon Captain played by Maximillian Schell. Set during the German retreat from Russia, Schell's Captain puts in for an Iron Cross(the highest German award) for his "leadership" during a brutal battle at the beginning of the film. Coburn calls BS and prevents him from getting it, setting up an animosity that gets resolved in the finale. This movie had some pretty brutal realism for being 1977. I shouldn't be surprised because its Peckinpah(this was his only war film). But damn, it had little kids and Russian women soldiers getting blown away. And the ending was typical Peckinpah. Let's just say things don't end well for anyone. Also had James Mason as a German Colonel and a very good David Warner as a Lietenant.

Funny to think this movie came out the same time as Star Wars.

Watched Godfather I and II yesterday. I can never watch just one or the other anymore. I can skip III, but the first two are like one big movie in my mind now. I never get tired of watching them. Except that street fight between Sonny and Carlo. That stage punch Jimmy Caan throws that misses by two feet always annoys the shit out of me.

Do you think Paulie really sold the old man out or was Sonny overreacting when he gives Clemenza the order?

Cloud Atlas. The premise is: life's a bitch. You die. Life's a bitch again. You die again. Future Asian Jim Sturgess is badass. Future Asian Doona Bae has wonderful boobies. Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks no matter what contrived accent he's using or how much prosthetics and make up you slather on him. Same goes for Halle Berry.
Ben Wishaw was good. And Jim Broadbent is always ruddy delightful.

Cloud Atlas fun fact! Natalie Portman gave the book to Larry Waschowski during V for Vendetta and was supposed to play Doona Bao's character(s) but she got knocked up during Black Swan and couldn't play that part. So, in another universe we'd have more Natalie Portman boobies on film. Yet another reason to hate Portman's husband.

Flight. The Denzel Washington movie directed by Bob Zemeckis about an alcoholic pilot who crash lands an airliner. The film is more about Denzel being an addict than the plane crash, but damn he does a masterful job in the role. I wouldn't be surprised if gets a nom next year. Lots of good supporting work by Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood, and John Goodman as his dealer. And an exceptional scene by James Badge Dale. He was only in one scene and I didn't even recognize him. Also, the hot Latino chick from My Name is Earl opens the film doing full frontal. She had a landing strip. :heybaby:

Last week I took the kids to see Wreck It Ralph. Lots of video game gags and easter eggs for old school 80's gamers. I was the only person in the theatre who laughed at the UUDDLRLRBA Start gag. I had to explain it to the kids after.

Today I saw Lincoln. Wow. My choice for Best Pic so far, beating out Argo. So many great performances I can't even begin. Tommy Lee Jones was particularly great. Sally Fields also. And of course Day-Lewis owned the title role.

Jesus, Rollo, spoilers. Y'asshole!

Not a big deal, actually, but I haven't seen WIR and want to. Now I'll be expecting an UUDDLRLRBA joke and it won't catch me by surprise.
